COMMON WILDFIRE DETECTION PROBLEMS

Wildfire detection methods currently depend on chance visual sightings by people in aircraft, in lookout towers or on the ground near the wildfire area, on satellite imagery, or on tracking lightning events. To confirm the occurrence of a wildfire, most of these methods rely heavily on the wildfire being large enough to generate noticeable smoke clouds.

As a result, wildfires in forests and grasslands often burn for hours, sometimes days before being reported. This delay often results in a small fire developing into a major wildfire that threatens life, property and natural resources. In 2003, over 88,000 wildfires burned 7.2 million acres.

Each year, the cost to fight these wildfires routinely escalates into the billions of dollars. In some cases, fighting a single wildfire can exceed a billion dollars as was the case with the Yellowstone National Park fire of 1988 that burned 2.5 million acres of pristine parkland.

FireALERT PERFORMS THE FOLLOWING:

In less than four minutes, the FireALERT-DC will:

  • Scan a full 360 degree horizontal view
  • During this scan, lock on to any potential signatures that might be fire related
  • Extensively analyze these signature for the specific properties generated by an organic fire, well before any smoke clouds form
  • Reject all signatures that do not provide a correct match
  • Immediately generate and send an alarm when the signature matches that of an organic wildfire.
